Arthur Pryor is a graduate of Colgate University and has a Master's Degree from New York University. He started training in Tang Soo Do in 1966 under Robert Sohn. In 1974 he was asked by Tang Soo Do founder Hwang Kee to represent Hwang Kee's interests in the formation of the new U.S. Tang Soo Do organization. Mr. Pryor was a charter member of the U.S. Soo Bahk Do (Tang Soo Do) Federation, Inc. and over the years served as treasurer, vice chairman, and chairman of the organization. He served on the board of directors for 18 years, then as a Regional Examiner, overseeing the quality of instruction in the art in the southeastern U.S. He helped to translate The Soo Bahk Do Dae Kam, Grandmaster Hwang Kee's first text book. He holds one of only two Letters of Commendation issued by Hwang Kee to an American. In the 1990's he was appointed a member of the Hu Kun In (Guardians of the Art) in the Soo Bahk Do Federation. He is a 7th degree midnight blue belt (equivalent to black belt), the highest rank you can earn in that system. While he belonged to the Moo Duk Kwan he was the 13th most senior active practitioner of that art worldwide. In 1997 he left corporate America and started a school in Coral Springs, Florida. He had 225 students in that school which he sold to his senior student. He left the U.S. Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation in 2009 due to long standing disagreements with the administration of the organization. He is now an independent Tang Soo Do practitioner teaching in both Florida and North Carolina and has started his own school, the Shim Gung Kwan. The words "Soo Bahk Do" and "Moo Duk Kwan" are registered trademarks of the U.S. Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation, Inc.
